Southern Maine Chapter - News

Southern Maine Chapter meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of each month at various locations.  SOME Chapter has five active Area Groups which each meet once each month.  For times and locations of all other meetings please check with Barbara Hepburn

Membership:

62 Primary Members + 14 Plural members for a total of 76. This total was as of June 2020, we lost several members at the end of the renewal period, we do expect to gain some back.

Programs, Chapter & Area Group Meetings
We have had many cancellations due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. Our Calumet retreat and Chapter Meeting in March were cancelled. Unfortunately our Annual Meeting originally scheduled for May and postponed until July 21st has now been cancelled. The Portland Country Club has made the decision not to hold events through the month of July and possibly longer. Our special class, Emis Etui with Betsy Morgan has been cancelled.

Our June Board Meeting was held on Zoom, we plan the same for August.

Each of our Area groups has been holding Zoom meetings for the past three months. They all plan to continue this for the foreseeable future. All locations where meetings are normally held have been closed and are unavailable for use. All members are welcome at any of our Zoom meetings, we are using this time to stay in touch and discuss ongoing projects.

Upcoming programs and events scheduled at the present time:

July22 and 23, 2020: Members who had signed up for Betsys class plan to meet at St. Marys Church in Falmouth, Maine to work on Emis Etui. We are hopeful that some members will have completed the pre~work and be able to complete the finishing of one of the smalls.

September 22nd, 2020: Chapter Meeting - the first of our Pear projects. A punch needle pear will be taught by Teresa Hall, she also designed this pear project. Kits will be available.

SOME Chapter programs are open to all NER Members. We also welcome participation from the public if space allows.
Our Chapter recently offered a GCC – Princess and the Pea, SOME pays all teacher expenses related to GCCs. Students only pay for their copy of the instructions and class supplies. This GCC is well represented by our members.
