Southern Maine Chapter - News

Southern Maine Chapter meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of each month at various locations.  SOME Chapter has five active Area Groups which each meet once each month.  For times and locations of all other meetings please check with Barbara Hepburn at Barbarahepburn1945@gmail.com

Past Programs

  1. November, 2017 Holiday Potluck Chapter Meeting ~ How to Make Your Own Cording or Braid Using a LUCET. Class taught by Jane Perkins (member).
  2. January 16, 2018: Standing wool, trivet, placemat, or possibly the top of a stool. Class taught by Mary Delano.
  3. March 20, 2018: Wool needlebooks and acorn scissors fobs for our stitching sisters. Class organized by our Outreach Chairman Suzanne Bruno. Leaf needlebook designed by Suzanne Bruno and acorn fob designed by Denise Pratt.

SOME currently has 73 Primary, 18 Plurals and 1 MAL for a total of 92. We continue to gain additional members, some rejoining and some new.
Fundraising (Ways and Means)
SOME Chapter continues with the sale of books (SOME Minis, SOME Strawberry Book and REDWORK Images of Maine), along with the sale of kits for Shell We Stitch? designs created by Denise Harrington Pratt. A further design will be available shortly, it will be featured in the July 2018 edition of NeedleArts magazine, be sure to check it out! SOME Chapter Outreach
SOME Chapter participated in the annual Textile Day at the Scarborough Public Library on March 17th, 2018. It was an opportunity to share work, demonstrate embroidery and sell books and kits.
Upcoming Outreach

  1. Calico Quilt Show: April 21-22 2018; Sat 4/21 10-4 & Sun 4/22 11-3 volunteers are set. Rowe School in Yarmouth. SOME has arranged to have the EGA National Banner available for this event.
  2. Maine Quilts in July: Members will represent SOME Chapter by stitching in the “Aisle”.

Upcoming Programs

  1. May 15, 2018 ~ SOME Chapter Annual Meeting Celebrating our 40th Anniversary, Portland Country Club, Falmouth, Maine.
  2. July 20th & 21st, 2018 ~ Japanese Silk Embroidered Cathedral Windows Purse. Taught by Kris Andrews. Class limited to 20. Registration form attached.
  3. September 2018 ~ Raised Beadwork Pincushion (Victorian style whimsy) taught by Stephanie Drehs, New York. (See page 00 for sign up).
  4. March 1, 2 & 3, 2019 ~ SAVE THE DATE ~ SOME Spring Getaway ~ A Seminar to be held at the Hilton Garden Inn Riverwatch in Auburn, Maine.
